I graduated from the University of Arkansas Medical School in Little Rock, Arkansas in 1980 and completed my pediatric residency at Orlando Regional Medical Center in 1983. In my final year of residency, I was chosen to be chief resident. I am board certified in pediatrics and a diplomat of the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).
Since October of 1983, I have been a practicing pediatrician in Orlando. From June of 2005 until March of 2006 I took a nine month leave of absence from practice to experience what it would be like to be a patient instead of a doctor. I have concluded that I would rather be a doctor.
Pediatrics Plus is the product of my 24 years of experience in private practice medicine. I feel that practicing pediatric medicine is more than simply examining patients, making diagnoses, treating illnesses, and taking home a paycheck. It is making patients and parents feel less uncomfortable during the examination. It is explaining how I make a diagnosis and the implications of that diagnosis. It is discussing a primary plan of treatment, treatment alternatives, expected outcomes, and follow-up care. Whenever feasible, I encourage involvement of both the parents and the patient in the decision-making process. I stress the importance of education in the prevention of illnesses and accidents.
In addition to spending time with my six "most beautiful and perfect" children, Chad, Kallie, Rebecca, Christian, Chandler, and Michael, I have tried diligently to make this community a safer and better place for all children. I am the medical adviser to Infant Swimming Resource(ISR), a aquatic safety and drowning prevention program headquartered in Central Florida. I am on the Board of Directors for Safe Start, a Florida non-profit corporation whose primary purpose is to prevent infant and childhood drownings. In the past, I was appointed by the State of Florida to serve as the medical representative on the state's Aquatic Safety Advisory Committee. I have also served as the medical adviser to the Orange County Public School System.
Welcome to Pediatrics Plus and thank you for choosing us as your pediatric medical office.
